developer based in Oxford, UK, thinks that games should be “going for a
sensation” as opposed to other elements such better graphics and
cutscenes.
Taylor is an outspoken figure in the UK games industry, and his talk at
Nottingham’s GameCity event last week was no exception. Taylor believes
that although unusual game concepts are often applauded, a “good” title
needs to be more than just wacky.
“What I think developers should do is go for a sensation. Don’t start
from a theatrical standpoint, go for the sensation first. [For
Determinance] we went for a sensation of duelling and swordplay,” said
Taylor.
Determinance is a PC mouse-driven freeform sword-fighting game and will
be Mode 7’s first title, currently scheduled for release in December.
It will be distributed online and sold by “sympathetic” indie outlets.
