TMNT Mutant Melee is a brand new adventure, but features the familiar
characters we all know and love from years of turtle following. Gamers
will start out with the ability to choose from the ones you all know
and love: Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo. A simple map
illustrates the set path that your particular character will take
throughout the Adventure Story campaign, with each new stage unlocked
only by beating the one before it. A few path choices are available,
but they all lead to nearly the same thing - beating up the bad guys.
You’ll always be fighting in Mutant Melee (no fetch quests or puzzle
solving here) but the gameplay types will vary from stage to stage. For
instance, you may be involved in normal melee fighting one stage, then
jump into an FPS-like Last Man Standing match the next time around. Or,
you may have to score the most KO’s in a timed bout, play some King of
the Hill, or a selfish game of Keep Away with a chest in order to
continue on with the story.
Combat usually involves multiple enemies at once, which means that
gamers will have to take advantage of every trick in the book in order
to survive. A power meter at the top of the screen illustrates how much
juice is available to pull off special moves which really deplete enemy
power reserves. Another big advantage is through power-ups found
throughout the levels. Power-ups usually appear after breaking open
crates, and can range from rocket launchers and swords, to a much
needed speed burst. Super-powerful signature attack moves will also
save your butt when outnumbered. The Special Attack meter is visible
around your character’s icon head and builds as damage is done to the
enemy. When this circular gauge is full, a major furry of turtle
attacks is unleashed on the unfortunate that choose to thwart your
peace-keeping efforts.
